Tustin, CA - Thursday, May 31, 2007 - Permlight announced today
the release of an innovative solution for “halo” or “reverse lit”
illuminated signs and channel letters. “Halo” lighting has
normally been accomplished only with neon, since LED creates
harsh “points of light” on the wall behind the sign and does not
achieve the desired soft, diffused look. The 787 TwisterTM “HALO”
series uses Nichia side-fire LED on the same patented metal board
platform as the standard TwisterTM. The 787 series consumes less
than 2 watts per foot and the modules are properly spaced for
even lighting at 4 modules per foot. Independent industry testing
has confirmed that the 787 series provides a soft, even “glow” in
reverse lit channel letters, even less than 1” standoff from the
wall/surface. As with all Permlight LED sign modules, the
TwisterTM HALO runs on the industry standard 12 volts DC with
Permlight’s own series of 60 watt, 240 watt and 480 watt remote
power supplies, or any other manufacturer’s power supply approved
by Permlight which limits the output to 5 amps and 12.3 volts
maximum per channel. The MSRP for the 787 Series is approximately
$28 per foot.

“In keeping with our motto of KISS, Keeping Innovative Solutions
SimpleTM, the 787 HALO series is truly innovative and simple,
and we have seen nothing like it in the industry.” commented
Nate Doney, Permlight’s Strategic Accounts Manager. “The HALO
was one of the stars of our exhibit at the International Sign
Association show in April 2007and the response was favorable and
overwhelming. Customer’s have tried everything to make LED work
in halo applications, including placing the LED on the returns
of the channel letter, but they still get “hot spots” on the
wall. Sign companies have added additional plastic or vinyl
diffusers behind the LED which not only makes the sign expensive
and labor intensive, but it traps heat and can cause premature
LED failures. The 787 series is affordable, easy and fast to
install and just looks great even in channel letters as small as
9 inches tall.”

“The 787 series creates an option which sign builders never
previously considered viable for LED and will further propagate
the rapid adoption of LED as a replacement for neon in
illuminated signs.” commented Fernando Lynch, President of
Permlight. “I wish we could take credit for this excellent and
novel idea, but the truth is that our policy is to listen to
our customer’s needs and our customer Ian Drinkwater from
Applelec Sign Components U.K. gets full credit for the idea of
TwisterTM HALO!”

The 747 Series features LED in white and blue and an exceptional
lifetime of over 10 years with constant operation in full
darkness. Permlight’s entire line of LED sign modules, including
the 787 series, also complies with California Title 22 regulation
which legislates that the disposal of any hazardous waste such as
mercury (contained in some neon) is illegal. The 787 series
contains no hazardous materials and features the same
construction and LED as Permlight’s award winning Green Building
product of the year, the 6” recessed downlight.

“Sign manufacturers, architectural designers, commercial property
managers and electrical installers are pleased to have an
alternative to neon that is more rugged and easier to install but
gives the same soft “halo” reverse lighting look,” commented
Michael Webb, Permlight’s VP of Sales and Marketing. “The rugged
construction of the 787 series eliminates our customer’s problem
of installed neon breakage during shipping transit of signs. You
can literally drop a channel letter and the LED won’t be harmed.”

The company indicates that UL listed product (all Permlight LED
sign modules are UR recognized components) will be available for
delivery June 2007.
