Permlight Introduces new flagship LED module series for
illuminated signs, large channel letters and canopies with
industry leading light output equivalent to neon
• White light output equivalent to 60mA neon
• Available in multiple colors and shades of white
• Typical life over 10 years
• Coated for corrosion resistance and UL listed for wet location
Tustin, CA - Monday, March 26, 2007 - Permlight announced today
the introduction of its new flagship 747 Series “El Plato” LED
module for large illuminated signs, channel letters and canopies
which previously could only be made with neon. The 747 Series
consumes approximately 3.4 watts per foot, about the same as 60mA
neon. El Plato in Spanish means “The Plate” signifying its large,
flat aluminum heatsink – part of Permlight’s well known patented
thermal management system. The large module size significantly
reduces installation labor requiring only one module per linear
foot and guaranteeing proper spacing of the individual LEDs.
Independent industry testing has confirmed that the 747 Series is
just as bright as 60mA neon and can “punch through” even the
toughest materials such as day/night plex. As with all Permlight
LED sign modules, the El Plato runs on the industry standard 12
volts DC with Permlight’s own series of 60 watt, 250 watt and 500
watt remote power supplies, or any other manufacturer’s power
supply approved by Permlight which limits the output to 5 amps
and 12.3 volts maximum per channel. The MSRP for the 747 Series
is approximately $25 per foot.
“The 747 Series ushers in a new era for our customers which will
rapidly increase the adoption of LED in illuminated signs.”
commented Fernando Lynch, President of Permlight. “We finally
listened to our customers who have just been “tolerating” LED as
a replacement for neon. Sign companies have been using LED in
small signs as an “acceptable but inferior alternate” to neon,
but never in large signs or when utilizing day/night material or
as an alternate to 60mA neon. The El Plato uses Permlight’s
patented thermal management system with the latest high
brightness LED from Nichia of Japan to equal the light output of
60mA neon. Our customers could not tolerate an increase in price
or a decrease in lifetime or quality to obtain these new
brightness levels. The 747 Series actually offers unprecedented
brightness at lower cost per foot than previous Permlight sign
products. The El Plato operates well under its power and thermal
rating, like an exotic sports car cruising at 55mph.”
The 747 Series features LED in amber, red, green and blue, and
various shades of white from warm “incandescent” white
(approximately 2850 Kelvin) to very cool white (approximately
6500 Kelvin) and several shades in-between. The 747 Series offers
an exceptional lifetime of over 10 years with constant operation
in full darkness.
Permlight’s entire line of LED sign modules, including the 747
Series, also complies with California’s Title 22 regulation which
legislates that the disposal of any hazardous waste such as
mercury (contained in some neon) is illegal. The 747 Series
contains no hazardous materials and features the same
construction and LED as Permlight’s award winning Green Building
product of the year, the 6” recessed downlight.
“Sign manufacturers, petroleum companies, commercial property
management firms, and electrical installers are pleased to have
an alternative to neon that is more rugged and easier to
install,” commented Michael Webb, Permlight’s VP of Sales and
Marketing. “Due to the El Plato’s tough construction, we’ve
eliminated one of our customer’s problems of installed neon
breakage during shipping transit of large signs. You can
literally drop a 6 foot tall channel letter on its back and the
LED won’t be harmed. The 747 Series is not only our new flagship
product, but it is the answer to our customer’s requests. The El
Plato will be featured at ISA (International Sign Association)
exhibition in Las Vegas Nevada, staring April 12, 2007.”
The company indicates that UL listed product (all Permlight LED
sign modules are UR recognized components) will be available for
delivery April 2007.
