Permlight and Laminators Enter into Strategic Relationship to Expand use of LEDs in Signage, Architectural, and Visual Merchandising Applications

  • Permlight announces introduction of StandeeLight battery operated point of purchase lighting system using Laminators Omegalite
  • Companies plan on expanding each others patented technologies, focus is on thermal management

Tustin, CA - February 3, 2004 - Permlight (Tustin, CA) and Laminators Incorporated (Hatfield, PA) announced today that the two companies have entered into a mutually exclusive strategic relationship to expand the use of LED lighting systems in signage, architectural lighting, and visual merchandising applications.

Under the undisclosed terms of the agreement both parties have agreed to cooperatively develop LED lighting systems and fixtures that maximize the intellectual property and know how of each company. Permlight is the recognized industry leader in thermally managed LED systems incorporating its LoTemp construction.  Laminators is an industry leader in the development of light weight and rugged composite aluminum panels using its proprietary open core aluminum- fluted poly-olefin core -aluminum lamination system.

Permlight announced in conjunction with signing the agreement that they have introduced a new portable, battery operated, visual merchandising point of purchase system called StandeeLight that incorporates the use of Laminators OmegaLite material.

“StandeeLight is the first of several low cost and innovative systems that will come out of the relationship between our two companies,” commented Manuel Lynch, President and CEO of Permlight.  “Designers and architects will find no exposed unsightly power wires in this new edgelit system designed for free standing interior applications.  With a battery life of up to 72 Hours on a single charge and weighing under 25 lbs, the StandeeLight highlights some of the exciting features the two companies can introduce together.”

Permlight is sampling the StandeeLight system to key customers and plans on offering it in high volume by early March 2004.   Initially the StandeeLight is offered in a silver finish but both companies together will be introducing a marble, wood grain, and aged metal finish in the coming months.

“Permlight’s patents are on the mounting of LED’s on highly conductive surfaces,  that dissipate unwanted heat and allow for maximizing the true potential of LED,” stated J. David Thompson, CEO and Chairman of Laminators Inc. “LED’s provide equivalent lumens of light output for a fraction of the energy cost consumed by neon and other traditional lighting devices, and are successfully replacing them in many traditional applications.  The value proposition is that we see our material as a light weight heat spreader and enabler for Permlight’s next generation LED systems and fixtures.”

Both companies have begun the confidential development of a new LED lighting systems which will change conventional thinking in channel letters. It is expected that this revolutionary new product will be introduced in Summer of 2004.
